TEHRAN (Press TV) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said on Sunday that the UN Security Council Resolution 1770 proves the failure of a unilateral concept in Iraq.
Mottaki, who is currently in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, was speaking at a foreign ministerial meeting concerning Iraq.Referring to a contradiction between the words and actions of the U.S. administration on Iraq, he said, ""The U.S. claims it supports the Iraqi government but weakens it through myriad ways.""
""The U.S. administration says it intends to establish security and stability in Iraq, while its troops cause insecurity in the country,"" he added.
The Iranian minister cautioned the international community and the UN not to repeat the mistakes of the occupying forces in Iraq.
Mottaki said problems in Iraq should be settled by its own people and urged the international community to play a complementary role in providing help for the Iraqi government and nation.
He also condemned the detention of an Iranian official by the U.S. forces in Iraq and said, ""This is not the first time that Iranian officials are being arrested during an official visit to Iraq.""
U.S. forces raided a hotel in the northern Iraqi province of Sulaimaniya, and kidnapped a civilian employee of the Kermanshah Governor General's Office on Thursday morning.
Mottaki stated that such irrational and illegal acts pose problems for Iraq's reconstruction and run counter to U.S. claims of rebuilding Iraq in cooperation with its neighboring states
